LISTEN to Jerry Noble
Noble’s Songs of Hope, Songs 1,2,3,4,5,, a series of Duets written so he can play together with cellist friend AnupKumar Biswas who lives in London and is founder of the Mathieson School, a school for needy children in Kolkata, India.“I began writing these instrumental duos because he and I will not be playing together in person as we had planned this summer. Bob and Kara and I have performed with Anup many times and we look forward to the next opportunity,” explains Jerry.

The ever popular Bob Sparkman Trio play cool blues, jazz, and swing at the Historic North Hall. With Bob Sparkman on clarinet, Jerry Noble on piano and Kara Noble on electric bass, the trio take the audience on their improvisatory journey through traditional jazz and the American Songbook. The trio’s jazz performances always include Fats Waller classics such as “Lulu’s Back in Town” and Hoagy Carmichael’s masterpieces like “Stardust”.

Longtime jazz musician Bob Sparkman and Jerry Noble have been playing together for over twenty years.  They are in their 21st year of playing together (documented by 10 CDs). In 2016, they were joined by Kara Noble to create The Bob Sparkman Trio (bobandjerry.com). Fats Waller has always been a favorite composer of theirs, and they always try to return to his music and often revisiting classic sampling of masterpieces from the American songbook including some Dixieland stompers.

BIOS
The Bob Sparkman Trio was formed in 2016, when clarinetist Bob Sparkman and pianist Jerry Noble were joined by Kara Noble on electric bass. They celebrated the enhanced perspective and broader reach of this ensemble by recording Tunes in the Key of Three, adding to Bob and Jerry’s existing 10-CD catalog. In addition to laying down the beat, Kara is a joyful participant in the group’s free-wheeling improvisatory journey through traditional jazz and the American Songbook

Bob Sparkman: Inspired by jazz artists including Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and the Condon Mob, Bob Sparkman jammed around Westchester County, NY with contemporaries Dick Wellstood and Ed Hubble. He gigged professionally in New York City and worked as player and assistant manager at the last Eddie Condon jazz club. A New York Times reviewer dubbed Bob’s sound “…wry and rough-toned…hover(ing) midway between Pee Wee Russell’s tortured notes and the straight positive phrases of Rod Cless,” with a style and manner distinctly his own.

He writes classical music reviews and features for the Springfield Republican Newspaper.

Kara began taking music lessons before she was 10 years old, and got her first electric bass (the one she still plays) in 1972. Her early musical influences ran to the Carpenters, John Denver, Carole King, and Willie Nelson, but she got hooked on jazz (especially traditionally jazz) in college. She was thrilled when Bob and Jerry invited her to join The Bob Sparkman Trio in 2016.
