SCHOLA NOVA and STRIKE A CHORD duo à cappella concert brings us sacred and secular choral music from across the centuries from Renaissance to contemporary. (www.scholanova.org ) (www.strike-a-chord.com)
Schola Nova, directed by Terry Larsen, is a choral ensemble based in Easthampton MA dedicated to the performance of sacred choral music drawn from all historical periods with a particular emphasis on à cappella singing. The group numbers in at about twenty singers of diverse backgrounds, and provides music for liturgical occasions, as well as concerts of sacred vocal music at venues throughout the Pioneer Valley and southern New England. Director Terry Larsen has sung with many choirs including The Singers’ Project from the Pioneer Valley, and the San Francisco Choral Artists. He was employed as a professional chorister with San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and performed with the renowned professional ensemble Chanticleer for three years. Terry has held the posts of chorus master for the Napa Valley Symphony Chorus, the Manchester Symphony Chorus (CT), and the Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus (MA).
STRIKE A CHORD is a Springfield MA based, co-ed à cappella group with a varied repertoire. They perform show tunes, doo-wop, pop music, funk, and gospel, with some comedy in-between. Some of their repertoire includes music by Sting, Stevie Wonder, Journey, The Nylons, The Beatles, Boyz 2 Men, George Michael, Peter Gabriel and many more. The group usually performs with 6-8 people. Strike A Chord has been performing for over 15 year. The group started as a Disney tour, performing all over the East Coast of the US, Canada, and in Europe just doing à cappella music for fun on the side. They now have an à cappella repertoire that includes an eclectic mix of musical genres.
North Hall artist gallery: featuring the art work of Beckie Kravetz, sculptor and opera-theatrical mask-maker from Cummington. Her opera-inspired sculptures and masks were featured at the MetOpera Shop, and she was the resident mask-maker for the Los Angeles Opera. Her masks were recently on exhibit at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington DC. The gallery is open before and after the event and during meet the artists/ performers reception during intermission.
