Meadow Flutes

MEADOW FLUTES

The Meadow Flutes quartet  featuring, classical, popular and traditional music was founded in 2011 by Andrea Taupier, Lynn Winsor and Karen McCarthy as a venue for exploring the flute chamber music repertoire with an ensemble versatile enough to present instrumentation from duets to six-part scoring that included the entire family of flutes.
Their performances have included the Celtic Services at St. Andrew’s Church in Longmeadow, the Berkshire Hills Music Academy, Longmeadow Historical Society and Springfield Library Association “Rotunda” Concert series. Their repertoire draws from a wide variety of classical, popular, traditional and ecclesiastical styles.

BIOS

Karen McCarthy

Karen McCarthy studied flute in the Boston area and at Northwestern University and has a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and an M.A. from the University of Washington. She is a founding member of Meadow Flutes and a performing member of the Tuesday Morning Music Club. Karen has performed for many Pioneer Valley organizations, including the Boar’s Head Festival, South Hadley Chorale, Hampshire Choral Society, Greater Westfield Choral Association, and plays for various local musicals. She is also an organist and choir director, formerly at St Andrew’s, Longmeadow and currently doing supply work, and she sings alto in the Five College Early Music Collegium.

Nancy Miller

Nancy Miller has been working in the Western Mass community for over 40 years as an insurance agent. As a flutist, she has been part of many music organizations including the University of Massachusetts Marching Band and Concert Band. More recently, she has performed locally on both flute and piccolo as part of the Old Post Road Orchestra of Wilbraham as well as the Seven Hills Orchestra of Worcester. She is pleased to join the Meadow Flutes, playing the flute as well as alto flute. Nancy also plays for local retirement homes, assisted living and nursing homes and for many churches throughout Massachusetts (and some in Orange County, California). She believes that music has the power to enrich and brighten our lives, no matter what age we are.

Andrea Taupier

Andrea Taupier has played flute for over 40 years. She has performed locally as part of the Zephyr Woodwind Quintet, with the Old Post Road Orchestra, at various churches, in several theater pit orchestras and with the Hampshire Choral Society. Most recently she is a founding member of the Meadow Flutes at St. Andrew’ s where she often plays alto or bass flute. While pursuing a degree in history at St. Olaf College, Andrea discovered that it is possible to hold a full-time job and maintain a long-time relationship with music. She currently serves as Library Director at Springfield College and lives in Longmeadow.

Lynn Winsor

Lynn Winsor holds a B.M. degree from the Boston Conservatory of Music. She has taught at the Community Music School in Springfield and been associated with the Pioneer Valley Symphony, Hampshire Choral Society, Hilltown Choral Society and numerous chamber ensembles throughout the area. She is a founding member of Meadow Flutes. Lynn has been living and teaching in Western Mass for 30 years.
