LISTEN TO: Tenor Antonio Abate with piano accompanist Jerome Tan performing bring-joy-to-others-season-Bringing Joy to Others” last Feb. in concert at Pawley’s Island, SC.
The accomplished NYC ensemble of soprano Amy Orsulak, tenor Antonio Abate, baritone Samuel Bowen and pianist Jerome Tan will perform various Italian arias and Schubert art song favorites including “An die Musik”, “Gretchen am Spinnrade”, and “Standchen​”. ​Several Italian opera gems such as the fierce soprano aria ​“l’altra notte” from Boito’s Mefistofele, the emotional aria “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s opera Turandot, and arias from La Boheme will be included, and more .

BIOS:

Soprano Amy Orsulakis a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music. She has had the honor of singing on the stage of the Met, Chicago Lyric Opera, Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space. Hailed as “having the voice of an angel” by her mom she is thrilled to be performing with her friends.

Tenor Antonio Abate, a graduate of Juilliard, has performed major roles including the title role in Faust, the title role in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Sam in Street Scene, Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Basilio and Curzio in The Marriage of Figaro, Tamino and Monastatos in The Magic Flute, and Andrew Johnson in The Mother of Us All. Mr. Abate completed a year at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute in North Carolina as one of only six fellows. He has attended the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival, the Ravinia Steans Institute, Bowdoin Music Festival, Opera North, Chautauqua Music School, BASOTI Music Festival in San Francisco, and Aspen Music Festival.

Baritone Samuel Bowen hails from Boston where he has performed with such companies as Odyssey Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Lowell House Opera, OperaHub, and Boston Opera Collaborative.  Most recently, Bowen was Rambaldo in BOC’s La Rondine, noted for his “warm timbre” and “robust singing”.  In exciting New England premiers, Samuel appeared in BOC’s Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie as well as Raylynmor Opera’s Our Town by Ned Rorem.  Additional highlights include the title role of Don Giovanni and the Baron in La Traviata with Flagstaff in Fidenza, Italy, Papageno with Piccola Opera, Schaunard with Long Island Lyric Opera, and Faninal with Connecticut Lyric Opera.   

Pianist Jerome Tan, a native of Singapore, came to the U.S. on a music scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned masters degrees in piano performance and ensemble arts. He has served as a staff pianist at the Steans Institute of the Ravinia Festival. Since receiving the Marilyn Horne Foundation Award for Vocal Collaboration from the Music Academy of the West, he has become a regular collaborator with many singers. Notable engagements include both The Song Continues and On Wings of Song programs in New York, and a birthday gala in honor of Miss Horne at Carnegie Hall as well accompanist for singers at the L’Academie musicale de Villecroze in southern France.
